Raquel Lasso Geisha – Filter

$38$110

      • Producer Raquel Lasso

      • Origin Nariño, Colombia
      • Flavours Beautiful geisha hallmarks of spice, citrus and tea, elegance and splendour.

Raquel is a smallholder producer, sustainably farming small volumes of geisha varietal coffee, and empowering others in her community to do the same. And not just any geisha, Raquel’s seed hails from the very discovery place of this exotic varietal – Hacienda Esmeralda in Boquete (and from there back to that fabled mountain near Gecha village in Ethiopia and the birthplace of coffee itself).

Beyond the seed’s excellent provenance, the goodness of this coffee derives equally from the unique climate and soil of this part of Narino and Raquel’s organic farm management and processing diligence.

No fancy tricks or experimental fermentation regimes apply here: Raquel (ably assisted by her husband Carlos) simply picks the ripest cherries (making many passes with the help of neighbours) and follows with same-day depulping and a 24-40 hour fermentation in closed plastic drums. Drying is on beds for an average of 16 days.

While many geshas and exotics have crossed our path, none have stunned us as much as this lovely coffee, augmenting Narino’s already floral profile with elegant and goddamn beautiful gesha hallmarks of spice, citrus, tea and a long list of other superlatives. This is a beautiful, complex, ever-shifting coffee from a very small scale and inspiring producer.
