Los Guacharos – Borbon Aji Espresso

Los Guacharos – Borbon Aji Espresso

      • Producer small producers of Los Guacharos – Ines Perafan, Luz Dary Polo, Alirio Muñoz, Luis Octavio Titimbo, Edilma Piedrahita
      • Attributes washed, borbon aji
      • Origin around Bruselas, Huila, Colombia
      • Flavours high intensity, ‘wow’ coffee. Gorgeous florals, botanical and sparkle reminiscent of your favourite pet nat, plus citrus rind and lime juiciness.

With this micro-lot, we’ve combined small harvests of one of the sexiest new varieties out of Colombia in 2023 – borbon aji.

The contributors to this lot are all members of our favourite producer group, Los Guacharos (whose members are transitioning away from synthetic chemical inputs in their farming in favour of taking on a more wholistic, regenerative, soil-up approach).

Fascinatingly, both pink borbon and borbon aji (the latter so called mostly because it ripens to a chilli pepper colour), are now no longer considered to be naturally occurring cross-pollinations, with genetic testing having demonstrated instead that they are Ethiopian landraces.

  • The seed space in coffee is particularly fascinating at the moment – it’s a very fertile time of discovery.

Pricing Transparency: The contributing producers received between $4,200,000 and $4,500,000 pesos per carga (125kg of dry parchment coffee) in September 2023.
