We like pushing some boundaries here at Small Batch, and while we are always focused on sourcing coffee in the best way, we want you to know we are also making very sure that we are roasting it for maximum hedonistic enjoyment as well. With that in mind, we give you another Kenyan espresso release. From Kiambu, like our beloved Fram Farm, but with a profile that oozes like the best rum-soaked chocolate pudding you’ve ever eaten, you’d be a fool not to get this into your cups.
Ndekei Factory has been around since 1972, and is part of a the New Gatukuyu co-operative society, which services 15 other factories as well as Ndekei. Processing here is done to the utmost quality. Timely and selective hand picking is carried out in Ndekei. Cherry is delivered to wet mill the same day it is picked. Cherry sorting is carried out at the wet mill prior to the pulping. Red ripe cherries are separated from underipes, overipes and foreign matter. Processing utilizes clean Kiri river water that is recirculated before disposal into seepage pits. Sun drying on raised tables is done before delivery of the coffee to the dry mill for secondary processing.
We were the highest bidder at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange auction for this special lot, during February 2019. The New Gatukuyu Farmer’s Coop Society is calculated to have received USD $3.75 per pound of finished green coffee from this purchase.Roasted for espresso brewing.
